Sorbet Socles

If you're trying to think of something elegant and beautiful for your next event, tiny little ice sorbet socles may be exactly what you need! They are no bigger than the palm of your hand...sparkling little surprises for your guests.

They can be designed to hold anything from a little scoop of sorbet as an intermezzo or even cold soup. For one wonderful party for President Clinton, we created ice plates, custom made to hold the seafood meal...including a tiny ice shell for the condiment (see photo).

The sorbet socles are range in price from $5.50 to $10.00 each. Ice plates and bowls range in price from $7.00 and up (the ice plate in the photograph was $15.00).

If you think these might be exactly what you need, just give us a call! We have done stars, shells, fans, leaves, flowers (the daylily is just gorgeous), bowls, plates, boxes...whatever you can imagine!

Jay Wins Gold

Jay won his fourth gold medal in three years last week!! He entered an American Culinary Federation competition at the Reliant Center (with only about one week's notice) and created a custom ice sculpture as his entry. It's a dragon wrapped around a sword. These competitions always make me nervous . The judges are some of the top chefs in the world and they can be VERY critical. Jay takes it all in stride... He's very humble and quiet and he listens to what they have to say. He's so accomplished though...I think it's fairly easy for him to take the minimal criticizm that they have for him.

Anyway...Tuesday was a great day. We got up VERY early to drive into Houston for the competition and by 9 am it was all over. Jay won first place in his category and best in show against all the other competitors... For that he won a gold medal and the top prize money. It's fun to watch him standing quietly with his hands folded behind his back. Ice sculpture is a culinary art and he is very respectful of the chefs who come to judge his work. I'm very proud of him.

...and so it begins!

Welcome to the new IceWorks Blog!!

Ours is a visual business and all the drawings in the world can't really show you what we can do or give you the ideas you need. It seems as if every day we create something new and in this forum I will record photographs of all the pieces as they're completed...and hopefully give you ideas for events of your own!

Please feel free to comment, ask questions or make suggestions! We're all in this together. Those of you who know Jay know that he is very self-effacing. You could know him for two years and not know what he does for a living! He's a very atypical artist...(except for that tempermental part which just drives me crazy!!). He says that I am the engine that runs this business, but mostly I just tell everyone about what he can do and that's all it takes! One of the exciting things about creating this blog is that it will allow me to "brag" about him and tell you about all the things he's doing that he would NEVER tell you himself. He doesn't know the password...can't change a thing, so here we go!

Thank you so much for all of you who have been our loyal customers over these past 21 years. It's hard to believe it's been that long...it's been a joyful ride.
